Multiplying by a Multiple of 11

Earlier we saw how to multiply any number by 11. Today, we will see how to multiply a number by a multiple of 11, i.e. 22, 33, 44, 55 etc. To multiply by such a number,

first multiply the unit’s digit of the multiple of 11 (using the appropriate short cut). Then multiply by 11.

The explanation given below is in two distinct steps, since this presentation is easier to follow.

Multiply 84,756 by 66.

Here we are multiplying by the sixth multiple of 11, since 6×11=66.

First, multiply by 6. Next, multiply the result by 11.
6 x 84,756 = 508,536

And, 11 x 508,536 = 5,593,896

Therefore, 84,756 x 66: 5,593,896
